The Hands of Corito

There are many tools in my sewing room.

Machines that hum softly as they work.

Scissors that have been with me for years.

Thread in colors that remind me of spring gardens, quiet mornings, and well-loved books.

But the one tool that appears in every Corito piece is one you won't find hanging on the wall.

My hands.

Every piece I create passes through them many times.

They choose the fabric.

Guide each seam beneath the presser foot.

Trim loose threads.

Turn corners that are too small for a machine to reach.

Fold, press, inspect, and wrap each piece before it leaves my sewing room.

They aren't perfect hands.

They've learned through practice, patience, and countless hours spent making.

Every little wrinkle and every tiny mark tells part of that story.

When someone chooses something from Corito, they're not just choosing a finished product.

They're choosing something that has been carefully held, thoughtfully made, and lovingly prepared from beginning to end.

Perhaps that's what handmade really means.

Not perfection.

But presence.

Thank you for spending a quiet moment with me today.

Until next time...

With gratitude,

Inès
